Prosthodontist, Director and cofounder of AIDER, Honourary Senior Fellow (University of Melbourne Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences), Australian Representative of the World Federation of Laser Dentistry, Chairman of the Defence Committee (ADA Vic branch). Dr. Cernavin has had considerable experience as both a general dental practitioner and a specialist prosthodontist. He has been teaching at Melbourne University for over 20 years as well as examining graduate dentists and post graduate theses. For many years Dr. Cernavin was a lecturer and examiner for the Australian Dental Council (ADC), lecturing and examining overseas trained dentists who wish to practice in Australia. Dr. Cernavin continues to teach both at AIDER and Melbourne University as well as participating as a lecturer and demonstrator for Continuing Education Courses organised by Melbourne University, the ADA and AIDER. Dr. Cernavin is a recognised Australian authority on lasers in dentistry and the author of many publications in both refereed and non refereed journals on topics including prosthodontics, lasers in dentistry and dental defence matters.

Dr. George Alexopoulos

Dr. George Alexopoulos graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science (B.D.Sc.) from
The University of Melbourne in 1997. In 1998, he held the position of rresident (oral and maxillofacial surgery and dentistry) at Monash Medical Centre. Since then, he has practiced general dentistry in both public and private sectors. Between 2004 and 2006,
Dr. Alexopoulos was Head of the Bridging Program for Overseas Trained Dentists which was conducted by Dental Health Services Victoria at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. In 2003, Dr. Alexopoulos completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Monash University. He currently holds a Business Development Management role with Dentsply Australia.

Mrs. Ruth Alima
Manager and Coordinator of AIDER courses

Ruth Alima has an excess of 30 years experience as a dental nurse both in the private and public sectors. For the past seven years she has been involved specifically in the training of overseas dentists wishing to sit for their qualifying examination at the Royal Dental Hospital, Melbourne. Her duties included training candidates in infection control, communication skills required in a clinical environment, preparation for the Part 3 Clinical Qualifying Examination as well as other areas. Ruth brings invaluable skills and knowledge of ADC examination requirements to the AIDER course.

Dr. Annette Humplik

Dr. Annette Humplik is a Board Registered Specialist with 20 years clinical experience in General and Prosthodontic Dentistry and 10 years experience in education and teaching.
Dr. Humplik obtained her B.D.Sc. from the University of Melbourne in 1989 and her MDSc in Prosthodontics in 2000 (University of Melbourne). She completed an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA Exec) from the Graduate School of Business, RMIT in 2008.

Dr. Luan Ngo

Dr Luan Ngo graduated with honors from the University of Melbourne in 1999. Having worked in both public and private practice, he has completed his specialist training in Periodontics from the Melbourne Dental School. Luan has also completed a PhD in periodontal related research. Luan has been involved in teaching undergraduate dental students since 2004, and is currently a lecturer and convener of the undergraduate periodontal program at the Melbourne Dental School. Luan also works part-time as a periodontist on Collins Street.

Dr. George Lazaridis
B.D.S Otago

George graduated from Otago University in 1978.  A year was spent in NZ, then a move to London resulted in  26 years  in his own private practice.  He sold in 2005 to come back closer to home with his wife and two children.
He now works as a demonstrator at the University of Melbourne, part time in private practice and works for AIDER instructing in case assessment, x-ray interpretation and treatment planning. For a short period he was also involved with Guild Insurance in a “further education” programme.
His personal interests are both in endodontics and prosthodontics .  He is a member of

Dr. Debbie Zaks
Grad Dip Psych, Hons (Psych), D.Psych (Clinical).

Debbie is a registered clinical psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Swinburne University. She is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (M.A.P.S). Debbie currently works as a private psychologist in two Melbourne locations. She has helped people with a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem and confidence, social skills, relationship problems, and adjusting to life transitions. Previously she has worked in various settings, including a university counselling clinic, a community relationship-oriented counselling organisation, and correctional centres. In addition to individual counselling, she has delivered various group programs, including motivation enhancement programs and mindfulness wellbeing groups. She has worked as a university psychology tutor and has been involved in conducting various large-scale research projects. Debbie realises that completing the dental exam in Australia can be a time of great uncertainty and stress. She is dedicated to delivering a seminar that addresses stress management in a holistic way, combining strategies that calm the mind and body, to foster maximum exam performance.

Mrs. Gillian Zaks

Gillian has worked in Educational Research as a Consultant Linguist on various research projects involving reading and communication.
In recent years she has been working in Trager movement re-education where non verbal communication , self awareness and mindfulness were involved in the session.
She has completed further study of effective communicationskills as part of becoming a Trager Tutor.
Gillian commenced work at Aider in 2007.

She aims to give individually appropriate feedback that will raise the participant’s awareness of their communication style and the areas that need to be addressed to make it as effective as possible in the Australian setting.
